The New World Renaissance Band - Owain Phyfe and Members of the New World Renaissance Band will take you back to a time of lords and ladies, kings and queens, knights and maidens. The magical quality of his music will leave you speechless as he takes you to the Renaissance.
After performing at many nationwide Renaissance Festivals and his membership in the American Lute Society, Owain began searching for other musicians with a similar vision. He found Cantiga, an instrumental ensemble that caught Owain's attention. With his mesmerizing vocals and talent on the vihuela (a "Chitarra Bantente" which is a guitar-like instrument of early design), combined with the talent of Cantiga, the New World Renaissance Band was formed..
Owain's music will surely entertain all as he introduces people to the Renaissance. Hecalls his work "Musical Chivalry" and says "People are drawn to the heroic and flamboyant nature of the music, but find something deeper."

Performance Details: Lute Works was created with the desire to freshen the Lute's musical dimensions by considering its roots and its possiblities. These compositions and arrangements are created using the 16th Century contrapunctal technique allowing, in a few cases, for other musical ideas and expressions. With the lute I can express, in the Renaissance style, emotions from my own life experiences. Two factors were important for my choice of pieces; to make this pleasing and accessable for a wide audience and yet to be interesting and substantial for a trained listener. - Stefano Pando |

While not presented as a duet on this album, the lively instrumental interludes provide enough of a counterpoint to convey the sense of the song. |
