Born into an Air Force
family, trumpeter, David B. Hooten was born in Frascati,
Italy, and grew up in various
cities in the United States and Europe.
As a scholarship student, David
received his degree in music education from North Texas
State University, where he studied with Dr. Leonard
Canderlaria. Two years later, he earned his Master's
degree in music performance from the University of
Oklahoma where he studied with Dr. Jacob
Larson.
David is currently a trumpet
soloist residing in Oklahoma City. His busy schedule
includes 150 appearances a year throughout the world as a
guest trumpet soloist in recitals and with
orchestras.
David has been a soloist with The
Kyiv Symphony Orchestra, The Garland Symphony Orchestra,
The East Texas Symphony Orchestra, The Oklahoma Youth
Orchestra, The Enid Symphony Orchestra, The Mormon Youth
Orchestra and Choir, The Thailand National Symphony
Orchestra, for Thailand's gala event of the year, The
Queen's 60th Birthday. David performed as a soloist with
the Oklahoma City Philharmonic to a 3,000 seat sold-out
audience and received a standing ovation. Conductor Joel
Levine is quoted as saying, "David is a joy to work with.
He really knows how to excite the audience."
In May of 1989, David released his
first solo album. "The Trumpet Shall Sound," produced by
his own label, DBH Productions, Inc, the album was
critically acclaimed and sold thousands of copies. David
has since released "Trumpets
of Christmas,"
"Trumpets
of Glory,"
"On
the Classical Side,"
"Dixieland
Praise," "A
Grand Christmas,"
"From
Kyiv with Love," and
"Timeless."
Upon the release of "On the Classical Side," Doc
Severinsen is quoted as saying. "I know you'll be able to
hear special qualities in his work."
On April 19, 1996, David had the
honor of performing "Amazing Grace" to open the Memorial
Ceremony for the victims of the Oklahoma City
bombing.
In August 1996, David performed the
National Anthem at Yankee Stadium for the NY Yankees
baseball game. In August of 1997, David performed the
National Anthem for the opening game of the Dallas
Cowboys.
On Father's Day 1997, David
performed on "The Hour of Power" television show from the
Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, CA. Since then, David
has appeared ten more times. In September of 1999, David
was honored to perform at a private audience at the
Vatican for Pope John Paul II. David was humbled when he
got to meet and speak with the Holy Father. David has
also performed for the President of the United States,
George W. Bush.
In February of 2000, David was
invited to be the soloist with the Kyiv Symphony
Orchestra to record a solo album. The recording of
romantic classical music and opera arias, adapted for
solo trumpet and orchestra by David was a fantastic
success. The album is entitled "From
Kyiv with Love."
David also released a duet album
done with guitarist Edgar Cruz entitled "Timeless,"
containing easy listening jazz, Italian and Spanish
favorites, as well as some gospel tunes.

David hosts a live gospel music
radio show on AM 890 KTLR. The show airs on Sunday
mornings from 7:00 am to 9 :00 am.
David recently performed for The
Pope in Rome, guests at the White House Christmas party
and at the opening game of the University of
Oklahoma!

Hooten has chaired numerous fund
raising events and has raised literally millions of
dollars for charities over the years.
On July 5th of 2003 Hooten produced
"Oklahoma
Freedom Celebration" a concert
at SBC Ballpark in OKC to salute our troops. Hooten also
performed and m.c.'ed the event with former Miss America
Susan Powell. Thousands attended. Hooten and his wife
Whitney established the David and Whitney Hooten
Foundation through the Oklahoma City Community
Foundation. This self directed foundation helps provide
music education for lesser previlidged children. Hooten
is the title sponsor for the 2003 David B. Hooten
Invitational to be held at Bel Marc Golf Course in
Norman, OK. This is a P.G.A event with a 120,000.00
purse.
