Mr. Jim's Bio:
In 1993 one of my choir members advised Blockbuster was looking for someone to set up eight stores in the St. Louis area with Classical, Jazz and other genres in todays music. I applied and immediately was accepted to the position of "Classical Manager" for Blockbuster. For the next decade worked closely with the District Manager in sales and inventory for those stores. Received the 1996 Viacom CEO & Blockbuster Chairman's Awards given to one employee nationwide selected from all the Blockbuster Music stores. Was fortunate enough to win that award and my wife and I were invited to attend the BLOCKBUSTER Corporate Holiday Party in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Then in 2000 the Riverfront Times made a survey with an issue "The Best in St. Louis", this included all music, book, restaurants and other shops in town. Well, I won the category of "The Best Music Sales Person in St. Louis". My picture and special article pictured in that issue, along with a wonderful plaque. Since then, Blockbuster sold to Wherehouse Music and recently Wherehouse filed Chapter 11. This meant I was looking for another position possibly in the music ~ enters Dan Warner and his wonderful one-of-a-kind nostalgic "Webster Records". Presently I'm the store manager and looking for additional knowledge and tidbits from you...the customer so I can look good for another decade.

Highlights of the 1996 Viacom CEO & Blockbuster Chairman's Awards.
About the awards...
The Viacom CEO Award is presented each year to an associate in each business unit of the Viacom Corporation. I had the opportunity to receive the award that year. Nominees must have at least 3 years of service and exhibit outstanding performance in any or all of the following areas:
effort, team spirit, positive attitude, willingness to teach others, and ability to exceed normal performance standards and work habits. A total of 30 associates were nominated that year. Recipients of this award received 100 shares of Viacom "B" common stock, a plaque, a congratulations letter from Sumner Redstone and were invited to attend the BLOCKBUSTER Corporate Holiday Party in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
In addition to the Viacom CEO Award, a Blockbuster Chairman's Award was given for the first time. Nominees must have received five or more WOW! pins which are part of the Service Recognition Program. WOW! pins are given by managers for demonstrating outstanding customer service. Jim Lovins Sr., an Asst. Mgr at store #98219 in St. Louis is the 1996 award winner, Jim received the equivalent of 100 shares of Viacom "B" common stock, a plaque and attended the Corporate Holiday Party.

Jim: "Don't let a customer leave unsatisfied! Do what it takes to make them happy - make them the exception to the rule, and they'll think you're exceptional. Each person is special and you should treat them that way."
