Mr. Jim's Review: A gift for melody, evocative lyrics and alluring talent are the staples for Miss Nora Jones ~ the new who's who on the music scene. This 22 year old vocalist and pianist is backed by some of the best jazz talent around ~ not to mention her phrasing and recognizable sound that only seasoned singers can harness. She is inspired by the music of yesterday and admires Aretha Franklin, Willie Nelson and Ray Charles. Worth the price of admission are the tracks "Cold, Cold Heart", a magical rendition of the classic Hank Williams tune and Hoagy Carmichael's unforgettable standard "The Nearness of You" the perfect song to fall asleep with every night. It's no wonder Jones won all those Grammys this year ~ she's a little lady with a lot of talent to be reckoned with.

Mr. Jim's Review: Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renee Zellweger, Richard Gere, Queen Latifah and John C. Reilly fill the bill as they shine on every track. Broadway musicals don't get much better when they are brought to the big screen ~ if you loved the musical and the film you will love this soundtrack even more. Would like to mention the stand outs "All That Jazz" (Zeta-Jones) ~ "I Can't Do It Alone" (Zeta-Jones) ~ "Mister Cellophane" (Reilly) ~ "When You're Good To Mama" (Latifah) ~ "I Move On" (Zeta-Jones & Zellweger) outstanding duet, which is not part of the original Broadway score. There is one track "Class" (Zeta-Jones & Latifah) which was cut from the film for one reason or another ~ just consider this bonus tracks for your great musical collection.

Producer David Foster leaves nothing to chance with songs like "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" ~ "The Way You Look Tonight" ~ "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" ~ "Sway" ~ "Moondance" ~ "Put Your Head On My Shoulder" covering decades of crooners and swingers.

Mr. Jim's Review: The dynamic new tenor trio of Nathan Granner, Mauricio O'Reilly and Daniel Montenegro make up the highly successful "The American Tenors". After their recent PBS Special these talented young men blend their voices to the highest peaks in the heavens. The genius of Frank McNamara who was behind the success of The Irish Tenors, has done it again. With pure class and fantastic arrangements each singer provides various solo segments that are rich and beautiful beyond words. Unforgettable performances of "If I Loved You" ~ "Shenandoah" and "Amazing Grace", are the best I've ever heard. These songs are American Classics with classically trained voices from each young man. Together their voices range the total spectrum that will bring a chill to your soul and a tear to your eye.

Mr. Jim's Review: Sissel has arrived on the scene with her pure angelic voice and breathtaking style that I immediately fell in love with. The entire album is a collection of songs with a tinge of celtic and new age music. There is a hint of Sarah Brightman as both obviously have classical training ~ listen and be amazed with the performance of "Shenandoah", that will leave your mind and body in a peaceful state of being. This Norwegian beauty excels in excellence as every song takes you on a musical journey. Hopefully you will learn to love Sissel as many already have ~ she has a very unique voice and every tune she sings sparkles.

Mr. Jim's Review: Perhaps his greatest collection thus far ~ this album lives up to the title. Lush and romantic themes thoughtfully laid out so that the songs flow from one to the next seamlessly. Chip Davis and the Mannheim gang set their standards high with every composition ~ capturing the hearts of people who love good music. Have you ever watched loved ones, birds in flight against a beautiful sky, standing before a forest of trees exploring what life is about and what is beyond. In my opinion this is the essence of each cue ~ light piano, percussion and moving strings mixed with brilliant compositions and performances.

Gene Autry: The Cowboy Is A Patriot

Mr. Jim's Review: World War II was when we saw Sgt. Gene Autry's true colors ~ red, white and blue. Varese presents this double disc set which features primary recordings of patriotic songs, along with continuity such as recruiting announcements, public service spots for bonds and rubber drives, CBS network ID's and plenty of Wrigley Doublemint Gum commercials. This fascinating look at how entertainment was used to fuel the war effort ~ is sure to be a hit with both Gene Autry fans, as well as those interested in WWII era songs and ephemera. Entire album is of the highest caliber ~ when America stood tall and the entire world has one cause. Hats off to Varese Records and "America's Favorite Singing Cowboy" ~ GENE AUTRY.
